LASG Assures Civil Servants Of Improved Working Condition

The Lagos State Government has assured workers in the state public service of its readiness to provide them with improved working condition, noting that civil servants in the state are the backbone of the achievements of the government in the past years.

The Deputy Governor of the State, Hon. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, dropped the hint while speaking at the Long Service Awards ceremony organised by the Office of the Head of Service as part of activities marking the Year 2011 Public Service Week.

Hon. Adefulire reminded the staff that the Fashola administration recognises and appreciates the support and service rendered to the administration and also to the people of the state, noting that the Lagos State Public Service has remained second to none in terms of excellent service delivery.

She added that the award was just the government’s token way of acknowledging the selflessness, hard work, diligence and efficiency with which the awardees have worked and served the state in the past years.

Adefulire reminded the awardees not to see the award as an opportunity to rest on their oars, noting that it is a challenge to do more work, as the government is desirous of fulfilling all its electoral promises to the people of the state.

She said: “as a government, we are only showing our deep appreciation for your sense of commitment, diligence, resilience, loyalty and dedication to duty as exemplified by your length of service to the government and people of Lagos State. So we still expect more from you.

“There is still more work to be done. We have worked together as a team, in our collective vision and determination to build a Lagos of our collective dream.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Head of Service, Mr. Adesegun Ogunlewe explained that the award is aimed at encouraging civil servants to be more diligent, committed and loyal to the service in order to further enhance their efficient service delivery.

He added that the award is to recognise and honour public servants who have served government and people of the state diligently for more than 30 years.

He disclosed that 1,635 public servants had benefited so far from the award which was introduced in 2006 during the Bola Tinubu administration.

While congratulating the 514 new awardees, the Head of service charged them not to relent in their efforts, noting that the award is to charge them to further show genuine commitment and exhibit greater productivity in service delivery to the people.

The ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretaries, senior civil servants in the State Public Service, family members of the awardees and other well wishers
