Senator Abatemi-Usman Decries State Of Insecurity
Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman representing Kogi Central Senatorial District has expressd worries over the high level of insecurity in the country.
The Senator, in a statement, noted that it is unfortunate the security agencies in the country have failed to proficiently discharge their statutory responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians.
Abatemi-Usman, an agricultural engineering graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) said Nigerians now move around in their own country with fear.
According to him, the bombing of the Police Force Headquarters by a suicide bomber believed to be member of Boko Haram group, is a clear indication that nobody is safe in the country.
He called on the Federal Government to take all necessary steps to checkmate the high rate of general insecurity in the land, adding that the people need to move freely without any kind of phobia.
“The primary responsibility of the government is to safeguard lives and properties of the citizens through the various security agencies in the country. But it appears that our security agencies have really not lived up to expectation in carrying out this duty efficiently in the interest of the people. How long would we continue to face this kind of situation? I think the security agencies need to wake up from their slumber and rise to the challenge,†Abatemi-Usman advised.
On the call for the sack of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Hafiz Ringim, the former special assistant to the embattled erstwhile Speaker of the House of Representatives said: “This is a new trend. Can he really be made a scapegoat? It is a million dollar question. May be we should catch our breadth. Let cool heads analyse the situation. Whoever is found negligent can then be excused.â€
