Governor Hope Uzodimma has donated 400 bags of 50kg of rice, noodles, beddings, water packs and jerry cans to people displaced by flooding in Imo state.

He made the donations when he visited the affected communities in the Ohaji-Egbema and Oguta council areas of the state.

Represented by his deputy, Prof. Placid Njoku, the governor expressed sympathy with the victims and assured them that the state government would stand by them throughout the challenging period.

Uzodimma also pledged to offer the victims one meal per day for two weeks to help them cope with their ordeal.

The governor also stated that the state government would collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to ease the victims’ concerns.

Uzodimma charged leaders of impacted areas with ensuring that assistance materials were distributed to people who were supposed to receive them and warned that any shortcomings would be held accountable.

He also informed the people that the Federal Government’s clearance for the dredging of Oguta Lake and the Orashi River will help to mitigate the consequences of flood catastrophes while also bringing economic relief to the area.

“We sympathise with you and feel your pain. We remain committed to the protection of lives and property through the provision of relief to internally displaced persons.

“We will continue to provide food and other items as well as partner with relevant government agencies and well-meaning Nigerians to provide succour for our people while working hard to prevent a repeat of the flood,” the governor said.
