Police Arraign Handset Dealer For Murder

A handset dealer, Segun Dada, 18 has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria for alleged murder.

Dada was alleged to have stabbed Aba Abubakar, 19, to death with a broken bottle.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Abubakar was stabbed during a scuffle over a new phone.

The accused was arrested at a hospital where he had gone to treat himself from the injury he sustained from the mob which attacked him after the incident.

He was arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful killing, an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. M, O. Olajuwon ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody, pending advice form the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The case has been adjourned till 3 August, 2011 for DPP’s advice.
