There is palpable tension in some parts of Delta State on Wednesday, as protesters took to the streets to protest the scarcity of the new naira notes and the rejection of the old notes in the state.
There were heavy gunshots by soldiers and policemen drafted to protect several banks in the areas.
Watch video below:
Areas mainly affected by the protest include Orhuwhorun, in Udu local government area and Effurun, in Uvwie local government area.
It was gathered that the protesters invade about three commercial banks in the affected area, including Union Bank and Diamond Bank.
No fewer than four vehicles were razed by the angry mob inside some of the banks around the Udu Express Junction and Ovwian area of Udu.
The protesters also barricaded the popular Udu Express Junction and Orhuwhorun Roundabout, thereby hindering vehicular movement in the area.
It was reliably gathered that the bank customers took to protest after the banks refused to issue the new naira notes to those who had besieged the banks for cash.

It was also noticed that none of the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in the banks in Warri, Effurun and Udu were dispensing cash before the protest.
The incident led to serious confusion in Warri, Effurun and Udu areas, as all banks have been shut down to prevent further attacks.
Commercial shops and offices around the troubled areas have also shut businesses.
Shop owners, filling stations and transporters have also stopped collecting the old naira notes from customers.
However, at the time of filing the report, no fatality has been recorded from the protest.
