NUPENG To Join Strike

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has said it is supporting the three-day industrial action embarked upon by the Labour and Civil Society Coalition, LASCO.

NUPENG even declared that while the organised labour would embark on the action for three days, the oil workers would embark on the strike for six days to protest the sale of Shell’s equity in some oil blocs.

The union queried the process leading to the sale and said it did not follow due process.

According to the NUPENG President, Igwe Achese, “We will join the NLC strike 100 per cent and from there proceed as a result of the SPDC sale of some its equity of oil blocks in the South-south and Southwest which is not open to public.”.

Also, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) supports the industrial action. Babatunde Ogun, president of PENGASSAN, said in a statement yesterday that: “government at all levels and the private sector must implement the minimum wage law and pay the wages as provide by the law.”

He said members of the association would ensure that they join in the strike once it begins.
