Lagos court jails Lekki burglar Oluwo for stealing N22m property

A 23-year-old man, Rahman Oluwo, who specializes in breaking into people’s homes at midnight in Lekki and its environs to steal properties, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour by a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court sitting on Lagos Island, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria.

He was sentenced for breaking into the apartments of the two complainants, with others still at large to steal properties worth N22m.

The convict was jailed by the Magistrate, Mr O .M Abioye after he pleaded guilty to the three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing preferred against him by the Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon close, Ikoyi, Lagos and the facts of the case presented before the Court by the Police Counsel, Amedu Adoga.

Police said that trouble started for the convict on 30 December, 2022 when he led others still at large to break and enter the apartments of the two complainants, Akinyemi Adeniji and Emem Akpan at midnight located at House 21, Road 85, Carton Gate Estate, Chevron Drive, Lekki, Lagos while they were sleeping and stole properties valued N22m and fled.

Police claimed that following the ugly development, the two victims petitioned the Inspector Generator of Police, IGP about the incident who in turn referred the case to the FCID Alagbon close, Ikoyi, Lagos for detailed investigation.

On receipt of the case, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of FCID, Lagos swiftly despatched his crack team led by Inspector Bamise Olakunle to fish out the suspects involved.

The Police team swung into action and after days of intelligence gathering tracked the convict to the Epe area of Lagos and arrested him.

During investigation, according to the Police, the convict confessed to the crime and led the Police to his father’s house in Epe where some of the stolen properties were recovered.

Magistrate Abioye jailed Oluwo for five years with hard labour without an option of fine.
