ACN Senatorial Candidate Withdraws Petition Against Senator Abe
Less than a month after Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the Rivers State governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, withdrew his petition against Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Dr. Normate Kpea, the ACN candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District, has announced the withdrawal of his petition against Senator Magnus Ngei Abe at the Election Petition Tribunal in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Kpea, a medical doctor formally based in USA, who addressed a section of newsmen in Port Harcourt today, explained that he decided to withdraw his petition against Senator Abe, at the Election Tribunal sitting in Port Harcourt, because there was no need to continue fighting a big political masquerade like the ruling People Democratic Party, PDP.
Besides wanting to allow peace to reign in the Rivers South East Senatorial District, Dr. Kpea said that he did not want to continue a long drawn legal battle that will cost him enormous legal fees without the assurance that he would triumph.
“The legal fees to fight at tribunal are huge, and the future is uncertain. Nobody financed my campaign and nobody is footing my legal bills. I have taken a decision about my future to face my medical practice.â€
On the allegation making the rounds in the state that ACN candidates who lost election at all levels have been settled with enormous amount of money, Kpea denied.
According to him, “I don’t know about other ACN candidates but I can only speak for myself. Nobody paid me anything. I have taken a decision to move ahead with life. If you are fighting a big party like PDP you have to have enormous resources.â€
Asked whether he consulted with his party before taking the decision to withdraw his petition, he said no.
Senator Abe, who spoke through Mr. Honour Sirawoo, the head Publicity of Magnus Abe Campaign Organisation, at the press briefing said that Senator Abe is happy about the decision of Dr Kpea.
“This is all about service to our people. Posterity will judge him rightly for taking a wise decision,†he said.
