FG inaugurates Kwara oxygen committee

Present at the joint inauguration and training were the Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Dr Malik AbdulRaheem, representative of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Michael Oguntoye, representative of the Anaesthesia Department of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Directors and Programme Officers from the State Ministry of Health and the Chief Medical Director of the Ilorin General Hospital, among others.

The Federal Ministry of Health has inaugurated the Kwara State Oxygen Coordinating Committee in line with the guidelines provided in the National Oxygen policy.

Dr. Raji Razaq, the state Commissioner for Health, received the team at the Ministry of Health Headquarters, along Fate Road, Ilorin, Kwara.

Represented at the inauguration by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Abubakar Ayinla appreciated the centrally driven initiative to build on the gains of our individual and collective successes, in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Razaq stressed further that oxygen therapy is essential to the effective treatment of critical medical conditions and a key priority in the case management approach.

The Commissioner explained that the equipment and gadgets that came along with the training will be deployed, based on the outcome of the oxygen needs assessment earlier conducted, to strengthen service delivery at both the Primary and Secondary Health care levels through the respective coordinating agency/board.

The visiting team led by a Consultant with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Mrs Kelechi Nwanosike, coordinated a training of trainers session at the Training of Trainers Hall of the Ministry.

Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Health has equally trained stakeholders on effective oxygen delivery services, with a view to boosting the healthy living of the people across the state.
