No Boko Haram In Jos –Task Force

The military Special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in Plateau State has denied suggestions that members of the Islamic sect “Boko Haram” have invaded Jos.

“No Boko Haram member has invaded Jos or anywhere in Plateau; the rumours are simply baseless,” STF spokesman, Charles Ekeocha said in Jos on Wednesday.

The STF was reacting to rumours that members of the sect were in Jos and could attack the people anytime.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rumour had sent fears down the spines of many residents, forcing them to be discussing the matter in hushed tones.

Ekeocha, in a statement, however, advised the people to go about their lawful activities as the STF and other security agencies were fully prepared to keep the peace.

The STF also urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the force and other security agencies for prompt action.

NAN reports that security had been tightened around Jos and its environs, a development many believe could be part of the measures to ward off any threat to law and order.

Battle-ready STF personnel have continued to patrol areas believed to be “hot spots” in Jos metropolis and some key towns in the state.
