Facts have emerged on how the proposed House of Representatives Standing Committee on Media, Public Affairs, National Orientation and Ethics and Values was aborted.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before the inauguration of the 10th House, the committee was one.

A source, who craved anonymity, spoke with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja.

He alleged that the creation of the two committees from the media committee was to soothe the feelings of some members of the house.

He said that this was contrary to the earlier agreement by the selection committee.

NAN reports that the committee on media and public affairs constituted on July 27 by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas was meant to include Orientation and Ethics.

The source alleged that, due to the intense lobbying and to pacify some aggrieved lawmakers who worked for the emergence of Abbas, the committee was further divided into three.

He said that this development has given birth to the committees on National Orientation and Ethics from the traditional media and public affairs committee.

The source said that those who changed it did not mean well for the committee.

He said that the proposed plan was for the committee to carry out the functions of sensitising the citizenry on the country’s values.

The source said that inculcating ethics and values was the responsibility of the media.

Attempt to speak with the Spokesperson to the speaker, Mr Musa Krishi was unsuccessful as he said he was on his way to Kano to attend an event.
