Police impound large quantity of expired, fake drugs in Kano

Police have impounded large quantity of expired and fake drugs concealed in two warehouses at Malam Kato Market, within Kano metropolis.

The drugs were intended to be distributed into various drug markets, but intelligence reports received by the police led to the seizure of the products said to worth millions of Naira.

According to a Statement by the Kano state Police Command spokesman, Superintendent of Police, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Usuani Gumel, a tip-off by a good Samaritan led to the discovery of the two warehouses.

The Statement reads: “On 22 August, 2023, a report was received from a good Samaritan that a large quantity of fake and expired drugs was discovered in two different warehouses located at Mallam Kato Market Kano.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc drafted a team of detectives to the scene.

“The following suspected fake and expired drugs were recovered from the two warehouses: 514 cartons of Emistxmin/Emstifer Syrup; 219 cartons of Lisinopril Tablets 5mg; seven cartons of Amlodipine Tablets 5mg; 87 cartons of Atenol 50mg; 120 cartons of mixed and 40 cartons of additional products; three cartons of Frusemide injection.

“All the products were successfully evacuated and handed over to (NAFDAC) for further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police appreciates those who assisted with the information that led to the recovery of these properties and the good people of the State for their continuous support and cooperation.

“He further urges them to keep reporting any suspicious movement, person(s) or item(s) they come across to the nearest Police Station or through the following Kano State Police Command emergency contact numbers.
