Russia hits Ukraine’s main export route

Russian drone attack destroys Odesa region in Ukraine
Russian drone attack destroys Odesa region in Ukraine

Russia launched a three-and-a-half-hour drone strike on the southern regions of the Odesa region, damaging Danube River port infrastructure.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated this on Telegram on Sunday.

At least two civilians were injured in the strike on the “civil infrastructure of the Danube”, according to Ukraine’s South Military Command.

Reports say Ukraine’s air defence systems shot down 22 of the 25 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia against Odesa in the early hours of Sunday.

Since the failure of a U.N.-brokered accord in July that permitted Kyiv to move grain via the Black Sea, the Danube has become Ukraine’s primary grain export route.

There was no information on which port facility was targeted. According to the military, a fire caused by the strike at the facility was immediately put out.

Blasts were reported in the Reni port, one of Ukraine’s two major Danube ports. Russia made no immediate comment.
