Telltale Photos from Morocco on devastating earthquake

Photographs and videos shared on social media by Moroccans showed the extent of damage inflicted by the powerful earthquake that hit the country late on Friday.

The earthquake which struck Morocco’s High Atlas mountains killed at least 296 people and injured 153, according to the Interior Ministry.

It destroyed buildings, sending panicky residents of major cities rushing out from their homes.

The Interior Ministry said the number of casualties constituted a preliminary toll.

A local official said most deaths were in mountain areas that were hard to reach.
