Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State said this while reacting to the Presidential Election Petition Court judgment of last Wednesday in which the petition filed against Tinubu's victory in the February 2023 presidential election was dismissed.

The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi has described the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, as the John the Baptist who prepared the way for the divine presidency of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State said this while reacting to the Presidential Election Petition Court judgment of last Wednesday in which the petition filed against Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential election was dismissed.

The PEPC also dismissed the petition filed against the victory of Tinubu in the election by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

However, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State at a press conference last Thursday in Onitsha said he has instructed his lawyers to go to Supreme Court to challenge the PEPC verdict.

But speaking to journalists in Ebonyi State on Saturday, Umahi said Obi will still fail in his bid to overturn Tinubu’s victory at the Supreme Court.

Umahi, who was in Abakaliki, as part of his ongoing inspection of federal roads in the South-east told journalists that God told him even before the February 25 election that Tinubu who contested on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC would win.

The Minister said like the Biblical John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming of Jesus Christ, Peter Obi also prepared the way for the coming of Tinubu’s presidency, ThisDay newspaper quoted him as saying.

“Like I said in Imo State, God has a purpose for everybody. There was John the Baptist, there was Christ and there is still Christ.

“Peter Obi has served the purpose of John the Baptist for the Divine President Bola Tinubu Ahmed, that’s all that God brought him to do this time around.

“So, I advise him not to go to any court of appeal. I am not a lawyer but the Governor of Ebonyi State is a lawyer and he has interpreted the judgment and it has left no hope for any appeal.

Umahi, who noted that Obi came third in the presidential election added that Tinubu was elected President despite lack of support for him in the South-east part of the country.

“But we voted even more than other regions because, through the calling of John the Baptist, we were able to bring down PDP, which is a victory for APC”.

He also commended the judges of the PEPC for the judgment they delivered on the election petition.

“Those judges are spirits. They went into everything and dissected them just like getting a coconut and breaking it. You will get the water and everything and get the nut.

“So, I advise him (Obi) not to go to appeal, he is not even second, he came third at the election; he is our brother. Let South-eastern people come together to support President Tinubu. He made us the number one minister even when we didn’t vote very well for him,” Umahi said.

The Minister however advised the people of the South-east to key into the centre so that they can get the same benefits as the other parts of the country
