Mohamed Menfi, President of the Libyan Presidency Council, has urgently requested international assistance to address the devastating consequences of deadly floods that have killed over 2,000 people in the country.

In a statement, Menfi urged friendly nations, brotherly countries, and international organisations to assist and support the disaster-affected regions.

He expressed deep concern about the situation and emphasised the urgency of taking action to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities.

Menfi designated the eastern cities of Derna, Al-Bayda, and Shahhat as areas severely impacted by the floods. He urged residents to follow local authorities’ advice and directives in order to effectively manage the crisis.

A Mediterranean storm that hit eastern Libya on a fateful Sunday caused extensive flooding and the destruction of critical infrastructure.

According to Osama Hammad, Prime Minister of eastern Libya, the disaster has killed over 2,000 people and left thousands more missing.

The situation remains dire, emphasising the critical need for international aid to address the humanitarian crisis in the affected areas.
