A group of women in Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State have protested against the choice of the incumbent chairman, Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni for a second term in office.

Alhaja Tawakalitu Onimole, who spoke on behalf of the protesters at the council secretariat on Monday, alleged that Eshilokun-Sanni did not do anything as promised since assumption of office.

Onimole maintained that market men and women have been subjected to unnecessary agony in the hands of council officials under the chairman’s control each time they came to collect levies from them.

She therefore implored Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) leaders, especially the immediate past governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to come to their aid and choose another credible, listening and worthy candidate that will fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming local government election in the state.

In his reaction, the council chairman said the protest was masterminded by his detractors who are envious of his achievement in office.

Speaking through one of his aides, the Eshilokun-Sanni stated that if he had not performed very well, the party leaders that gave him a second term ticket would not have done so.

According to the aide, who also is a supervisory councillor, no council chairman has ever done half of what Eshilokun-Sanni did within three years of his administration, adding that he will continue to excel in office having been got the party leaders’ nod for a second term.
