Generator Fume Suffocates Family Of Four

The Anambra Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of a family of four after they inhaled generator fume at Nkwere-Ezunaka near Onitsha in Anambra.

Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in a telephone interview with journalists, described the tragedy as a sad event.

“Yes, it is a sad event. The family of four died as a result of generator fume they inhaled while asleep from Sunday night to this Monday morning,” Chukwuemeka said.

According to witnesses, the deceased included the head of the family, Mr. Peter Nwoye, his wife, Ebele Nwoye, and their two children, Chioma and Daluchukwu, aged 10 and 13 years, respectively.

Reacting to the incident, an in-law to the deceased, who preferred anonymity, said that the Nwoyes had gone to bed in good health before the unfortunate incident.

Another sympathiser, who recounted the incident, said that the corpses were fuming through their mouths and that they appeared to have “struggled hard before they gave up.”

The police spokesman said that generating set was within the corridors of the home of Nwoyes.
