The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has submitted the new minimum wage proposal cost to president Bola Tinubu.

Edun submitted the new minimum wage proposal and what it will cost government to pay to the president at the State House, Abuja on Thursday.

Tinubu had given the minister 48 hours to come up with a new minimum wage proposal after Labour unions rejected the N60,000 earlier proposed by the Federal Government.

The unions had embarked on indefinite strike which was called off after two days to enable government to dialogue with them for a new wage.

The president had agreed to pay above N60,000 which warranted the suspension of the strike for five days.

During the strike, the labour unions shut down the national grid, throwing the entire nation into total darkness, an action that was widely condemned.

With the submission of the new minimum wage proposal to the president by Edun, the coast is now clear for a fresh dialogue between the Federal Government and the labour unions for a higher minimum wage.
