Teenager Stabs Man With Bottle

The police at Adekunle Police Division, Yaba, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, have arraigned a teenager, Uche Okoro, 19 before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court on a count charge of assault occassioning harm.

The police alleged that the accused broke an empty bottle of beer and stabbed Onyebuchi Opara who challenged him for smoking Indian hemp in a beer parlour.

The accused, it was gathered, attempted to escape after stabbing the complainant but was arrested and handed over to the police at Adekunle.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, ASP Phillips Asiodu, is punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, O.S. Bashorun granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter till 26 September, 2011 for mention.

The teenager was later remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for failing to meet the conditions attached to the bail.
