Police Arrest PHCN Cable Thief
The police at the Bar Beach Division, Victoria Island, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arraigned a man, Damilola Amos, 21 before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on a count charge of stealing PHCN cables.
The accused was arrested on 6 September, 2011 at Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, by a patrol team led by Inspector Kamoru Jimoh with bundles of cables belonging to PHCN.
Other items recovered from him include a saw blade and knife used in cutting the cables along Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island.
The police alleged that the accused confessed to the crime and that he has been stealing PHCN cables for long on the Victoria Island axis.
After investigation, he was charged before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for stealing, an offence punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mr. B. A. Sonuga, who stood in for A. A. Adefulire, adjourned the matter till 26 September.
