All Africa Games: Basketball Gold Excites NBBF
Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, has expressed satisfaction with the gold medal won by the senior national team, D’Tigers, at the just concluded 10th All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
The Sani Ahmed-led D’Tigers earned their place in the history books on Friday at the Pan Africa Games in Maputo when they defeated hosts, Mozambique, by 62-57 points in the final game in the presence of their vociferous home fans and their President Armando Guebuza.
Speaking after the thrilling match with the media in Maputo, Mukhtar Khaleh, Technical Director of the NBBF, said they are happy with the feat recorded by the Olumide Oyedeji-captained team, saying that with hard work and dedication there is no limit to one’s achievement in life.
“We are really impressed with the D’Tigers for winning the gold medal today (Friday) and I can tell you that we (NBBF) are really proud of the players.
“They showed a lot of courage and determination to come out victorious in such a tense match played against the home side with their President in the stands, cheering them up.
“I hope with this feat recorded, the team have been able to put smiles on the faces of their fans and prove that the third position they secured at Afrobasket 2011 in Madagascar was not their target but the trophy,†he stated.
Chief coach of the D’Tigers, Sani Ahmed, attributed the team’s victory to the players’ determination to triumph, coupled with the defensive play pattern adopted by the technical crew.
