Rishi Sunak is on his way out of 10 Downing Street as the Labour Party has crossed the 326-seat threshold for becoming the majority in the House of Commons.

BBC had projected that the final results would show Labour winning  410 seats, while the  Conservatives having only 144.

Labour leader, Keir Starmer who is effectively the Prime Minister-elect, reacted to the victory while addressing supporters at a victory rally in London. He said: “A mandate like this comes with a great responsibility”.

Starmer, while promising what he called a  national renewal, said: “Today we start the next chapter — begin the work of change, the mission of national renewal and start to rebuild our country”.

He added that the task of a Labour government is “nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold our country together”.

“We have to return politics to public service,” he goes on, adding his government will “show it can be a force for good”.
