Following backlash over her comments about other Nigerian musicians, Simi has retracted her statement.
Simi admitted her remark was “weird.”
Recently, during an interview, Simi mentioned that she only listens to her husband Adekunle Gold’s music, which surprised many netizens who accused her of arrogance.
In response to the criticism, Simi posted a lengthy message on her official X, acknowledging that she should have handled the conversation more thoughtfully.
“In hindsight, I should have approached this conversation more carefully. I didn’t realize it might come off as cocky. I’ve never been proud of it, and I don’t see it as something to be proud of.
“It was banter in the wrong place. That’s why I should have been more careful. It was a 2-hour interview with drinking and cussing, so I was chatting like I would with friends. It hurts that the clip and headline were intentionally misleading. It’s impossible to watch the entire interview and get the same impression as from the clip that was shared,” she explained.
