Lagos ACN Warns On Harassment Of Members By Security Agents

The Lagos State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has condemned the intimidation, harassment and humiliation officially meted out to ACN supporters and sympathisers travelling to Abuja to witness the trial of the p[arty’s leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.

In a release signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party says the action of the overzealous security agents working in tandem with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to rubbish and humble the opposition is not acceptable in a democracy. What is wrong is wrong and what is right is right.

“We note that the sad incident which took place in Lokoja is reminding us what transpired in Nigeria in the days of IBB and Abacha which political commentators christened ‘the days of the locusts’”.

The party added: “It pains us to the marrows that the PDP-controlled security agents are still applying 19th century solutions to 21st century problems. This is primitive, retrogressive and barbaric.

“Freedom of speech and expression is guaranteed in any known democratic nation and Nigeria is no exception. What we expected from the country’s security agents in Abuja is to remain impartial and to provide security by making sure that nobody causes a breach of the peace. PDP does not own the security agencies in Nigeria . 150 million Nigerians including ACN own them.

“We insist that the trial of our National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu five years after he left office is politically motivated. The Federal Government controlled PDP has not forgiven the Servant Leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu for causing the political earthquake in the South West and beyond in 2011 general elections.”

According to the party, “those who lost power in Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun via the election tribunals and those who lost power in Ogun, Oyo State via the ballot boxes in 2011 are still crying, rolling on the ground and pleading with President Jonathan to do something about Bola Ahmed Tinubu otherwise they will go into political oblivion.”

The party warns that “PDP is travelling on the road that is familiar to us and we will not be intimidated. George Orwell reminds us that the political language from conservatives to anarchists is designed to make lies sound truthful, murder respectable and give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. We advise PDP and the nation’s security agents to learn from history.”
