The Police in Lagos have arrested a 27-year-old Woman, Kafayat Olamide Olokodana for allegedly obtaining the sum of N4.2m from a United Kingdom (UK) based businessman, Owolabi Oshiyemi with the pretext that she had secured a UK Student visa to study at Roehampton University, London knowing full well that her claim was false.

Police alleged that the defendant allegedly deceived the complainant with a UK Student visa to study in the UK and collected the money from him knowing full well that her claim was false and converted the money to her use and fled.

Police further alleged that following the development, the complainant petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone Command, Lagos, Durosimi Olatoye who swiftly directed his men to arrest the defendant.

The Police tracked the defendant and arrested her at a hideout in Lagos and after an investigation by Inspector Idowu Odeniyi and team, the defendant was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

Police prosecuting Counsel, ASP Francis Igbinosa told the Court in the charge marked M/21/2024 that the defendant committed the offence between 16 August and 15 December 2023 in Lagos.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sections 314, 365 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku granted her N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Ayoku adjourned the case till 22 July 2024 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Kirikiri correctional facility till she perfected the bail conditions.
