Man Faces Rape Charge

A 28-year old man, Emmanuel Okorie has been charged before the Ijeshatedo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly raping a 14-year old girl (name withheld). Okorie was alleged to have lured the girl to his apartment at 16, Isiakande Street, Ilasa, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, where he lives with the victim’s parents.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and accused the police of lying against him. He told the court that the girl was his girlfriend.

He said that he preferred to be arraigned for sleeping with the victim than hanging a rape charge on him.

He insisted that he did not rape the girl because she did not complain when they were having sex.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the girl’s parents got to know about the sexual assault through a neighbour who witnessed the incident.

Okorie was arrested and charged to court for having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
