Soldier in trouble over killing of teenage protester

The Army spokesman said the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, had sent a delegation led by General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Lander Saraso, to visit and condole with the teenager's family.
The Army says it has detained a soldier who allegedly killed 16-year-old protester, Ismail Mohammed, in Kaduna.
The teenager was alleged to have been shot on Tuesday while the soldier was attempting to stop hoodlums in Samaru, Zaria
Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement said the incident happened after troops received a distress call that some hoodlums in Samaru, burning tyres and attacking security personnel.
He said “On arrival at the scene, the hoodlums attempted to attack the troops, prompting a soldier to fire a warning shot to scare them.
“This, unfortunately, led to the death of Mohammed.
“The soldier involved has been arrested is and undergoing interrogation.”
