LG Poll: Jubilation In Ifako-Ijaye, Ojokoro, Eredo, Other LGs
Following the release of the list of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) local government chairmanship candidates in Lagos State, there was jubilation in Ifako-Ijaiye, Eredo and Ojokoro, among other councils, over the nomination of Mr. Oloruntoba Oke who will be running for the first time in Ifako-Ijaiye and the return of Sabiu Omolaja Adelaja and Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo to office in Eredo and Ojokoro councils respectively.
LG Circuit learnt that immediately the list of the candidates was released on Monday, residents of the areas trooped out in hundreds to the homes of their standard bearers to jubilate with their candidates.
In Ifako-Ijaiye, residents and well wishers stormed the Obawole home of Toba Oke, to celebrate and show solidarity for what was termed as a new dawn in the local government.
Addressing the large crowd, Oke thanked them for their support and promised to meet their expectations if elected as the chairman of the area.
“It is a new dawn in our local government. It is not by my power but the Lord’s doing. My nomination as the ACN flag bearer has kept our hope alive, adding, if elected, my administration will be open to all, but I am appealing to you to support all the party’s councillors and expect a change in our area soon,†he said.
In Noforija, party loyalists and residents besieged the home of Adelaja to congratulate him for his nomination by the ACN to contest for a second term in office.
Adelaja used the opportunity to thank them for their support with a promise that he will not let them down.
In Ojokoro, stakeholders under the aegis of Ojokoro Elders’ forum comprising traditional rulers, chiefs, Muslim and Christian leaders, joined thousands of residents to drum support for the incumbent chairman of the local government, Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo.
According to a statement signed by 12 elders headed by Chief I.A. Lawal and issued at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday at Ile–Ogbo, Abule Egba in the council area, it was agreed that residents should be mobilised to vote en masse for Olabinjo in the 22 October, 2011 poll.
