Biggy Khali’s Love N Pray Tha EP is a compelling sonic voyage
What’s the inspiration behind an album title? Are they generated by Public relation companies or are they a culmination of what an artistes feels, experienced during the recording of an album. Sometimes, it is a combination of these and many more.
When I listened to Biggy Khali’s Love N Pray Tha EP, three tracks extended which was released on September 22, 2022, I began wondering what state of mind he could have been in to fashion out those tracks. How can you be involved in romance and still have time for prayer? By the time I listened to the track multiple times, I got to understand his perspective.
Biggy Khali, one of the Afrobeats prominent artiste and promoter has been up and doing since the year began. He keeps on releasing songs, while at the same time serenading audiences across myriad venues in Nigeria. On this new EP, he called on some of Nigerian finest singers , songwriters and A&R to work on this project. The short and impactful project finds the best of the best coming together to craft a project that would stand the test of time.
A mid tempo guitar begins the track as Andyjezz sings to his partner. The track which is titled “Halima,” is a dash between English and Hausa language with the artiste singing Halima on the end note. One beautiful thing about this is the simplicity deployed by the singer, the minimal production gets enliven by the songwriters writing prowess. In the opening half of the track, Andyjezz is full of praise for the girl he is enchanted with. Not done, he also assures the girl of his faithfulness to her. Even though there might be a lot of distractions, he swiftly assures her of his worthiness.
The second last track on Love N Pray EP is titled “Blessing,” this echoes more of gospel than any genre with Spokegizzy leveling up to deliver a fantastic two verse and hook. The song stands for the artiste level of perseverance and mindset, while his mind is in success, he is aware of the obstacles around. He prayed for God’s blessing as he navigated life’s journey.
On the sex tinged “Girl Your Body Calling,” featuring Loudspeeka and Xchizzy. Both artistes bounce on each other’s energy as they call on a girl to do their bidding. The production of the song tethers around Dancehall. More bounce on the production would have given it a Caribbean feeling yet the artistes were still able to maneuver around the beat, stayed on the topic and still deliver brilliant verses and hooks. This song revolves around submission, adoration and endearment. It has a load of many beautiful things.
With B4Umatrix, Okemasky mixing and mastering the tracks and Ebeiga Godstime AKA Loudspeeka, Martin Okechukwu aka okemasky, Boniface Ugim Ayabie AKA B4Umatrix handling the production.
One awesome thing about Love N Pray Tha EP is the number of songwriters Biggy Khali explored, it just shows the details he brings to his works. The three tracks were written by Rebecca Ayabie aka Ayabecca, Odera Alexander AKA SaintOdeba, Blessing Simon AKA Bmelemu, Victoria Chidinma AKA Chidiivick, Munachi chukwudi Onyeukwu AKA Munaachuks, Elizabeth Eze aka Ellizzee, Cornelius Ugwakong Ayabie AKA BIGGY Khali.
Via Love N Pray Tha EP, Biggy Khali takes the listeners on a compelling, invigorating journey through a sonic landscape. He brings his brilliant A&R skill to test as he assembles the finest songwriters, producers, mixing engineers and others. At the end of the play, it is a beautiful culmination.
