Council Poll: Ejigbo ACN Elders Reject Candidate

Elders and leaders of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State have protested what they called imposition of Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan as the party’s chairmanship candidate in the 22 October council election in the state.

According to their letter of protest signed by Chief Dele Idowu, Mr. A. P. Fayoda, Prince Adebayo Onakoya, Mr. V.K. Akintade, Kazim Anifaloyin and Alhaji I. Sulaimon, there was no primary election in the council area before Bamigbetan emerged.

The party leaders said they had earlier despatched a letter of protest to the ACN national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 14 September this year over the matter, but the leadership of the party still went ahead to impose an unpopular candidate on them.

They claimed that six contestants including a lawyer emerged from the council area and will prefer any of them to Bamigbetan who was rejected by majority of the people of Ejigbo on account of non-performance.

“We therefore strongly appeal and also pray that the party should immediately commence the process of the party primaries in respect of the chairmanship and councillorship positions in Ejigbo LCDA in accordance with our party, ACN guidelines for the nomination of candidates for local government and LCDA offices in Lagos State as approved by Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC),” the elders stated.
