The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has said it is investigating claims that wrong figures were entered into result sheets used in some polling units in the Saturday’s Edo State governorship election.
INEC said this in a statement published on its X handle on Saturday evening. The Commission said it has received such complaints from two out of the over 4000 polling units where the election took place across Edo State.
The Commission however said it has began investigating the claims so that appropriate action can be taken.
INEC in the short statement said, “The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an allegation of wrong figures entered into polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election.
“This is the second complaint we have received out of the 4,519 polling units used for the election.
“The Commission will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infraction.”
The INEC’s statement followed circulation of some polling units results of the Edo governorship election on the social media showing the number of votes scored by political parties being more than the number of accredited voters.
