Borno flood: Zulum includes EFCC, ICPC, others in committee to disburse donated funds

Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has included representatives of various organisations including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Department of State Services (DSS) in a committee to oversee the disbursement of relief funds and items for victims of the recent flood disaster that affected the state.
Civil Society Organisations, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), development and humanitarian and His Royal Highest, Shehu of Borno partners are also included in the committee.
The inclusion of the organisations, Zulum said in a statement by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Hon Bukar Tijjani, was to ensure transparency in the disbursement of the funds.
Also included as members of the committee are: Engr. Baba Bukar Gujubawu, Special Adviser Monitoring/Evaluation (Chairman), Prof. Ibrahim Umara, University of Maiduguri (Co-Chairman), representatives of EFCC (member), ICPC (member), Nigeria Police (member), Nigerian Army (member), DSS (member) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC (member).
The committee also include representatives of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Ministry of Sport Development, Youth Development and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Finance, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA).
Zulum urged the committee members to approach their responsibilities with dedication and transparency, emphasising the importance of their work for the affected communities.
Borno government has said it would flag off the distribution of the donated items and cash to the flood victims today.
The Borno State Government has said over N12 billion was donated by individuals, groups and organisations to victims of the flood disaster which ravaged Maiduguri, the state capital.
