Judgement Day: Offa robbers sentenced to death

A Kwara State High Court on Thursday, convicted and sentenced to death five persons accused of involvement in the infamous Offa robbery incident.

Trial judge, Justice Haleemah Salman also found them guilty of illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

The convicts are Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salahudeen Azeez, and Niyi Ogundiran

The judge said the prosecution had submitted enough evidence to prove the convicts were guilty.

However, her sentence for illegal possession of firearms was three years imprisonment.

The convicts had operated in at least five banks in Offa, Kwara State six years ago.

They were said to have killed several persons including some policemen during the operations even as they made away with large amounts of money.

The reports of their robberies and killings had also generated a national interest.
