Customs Officer Kills Daughter In Error

An angry retired customs officer has gunned down his daughter in error.

The man called James Igoche, lives in North-Bank area of Makurdi, Benue State, north central Nigeria.

He commited the crime yesterday afternoon while in a fit of anger with his son.

The victim, Joy Igoche, 23, was a chorister at St. Marry’s Catholic Church, and had just gained admission into Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Alaribe Ejike, who confirmed the incident to P.M.NEWS, said the man has been arrested and remanded in police custody for culpable homicide.

The police spokesman said the incident occurred following a quarrel between the culprit and his son .

Consequently, he rushed into his room and emerged with his locally made gun with which he wanted to shoot his son. He aimed it at the boy but in the process he accidentally shot his daughter.

The victim, P.M.NEWS, gathered was coming out of the room when she was felled by the bullets.

The man, according to eyewitnesses, was said to have carried the corpse of his daughter to Federal Medical Centre in the town.

The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested.

Ejike disclosed that the police have commenced investigation to unravel the reason for the culprit’s action.

The PPRO advised children to always obey their parents and also urged parents to always be cautious when dealing with their children rather than lose their temper over frivolous issues.
