Police begin advocacy against “sit-at-home” in Anambra 1

The Anambra State Commissioner of Policez Nnaghe Obono Itam, on Monday led security operatives on advocacy against the compulsory sit-at-home regime imposed on the South-East states by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement.

The advocacy which will take home round the 21 local government areas of the state, will also serve for security assessment purpose.

A statement on Monday by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the assessment patrol started with a visit to the Awka South local government area.

Places visited include Ogidi Divisional headquarters, Obosi Divisional Headquaters Okpoko Divisional Headquarters, Harbour Divisional Headquaters, Awada Divisional Headquaters.

He charged the executive council members, the traditional rulers, the president general of the communities, youth leaders, Anambra State Vigilantes operatives, PCRC members and other stakeholders to continue to work with the police and other security agencies on the need to adopt sustainable policing practices to improve security surveillance and timely security interventions in the state.

He also urged residents alike to report suspicious persons and unusual movement they may observe to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency number: 07039194332, for prompt response.

Meanwhile, CP Obono Itam has reacted to the murder incidents at Nibo and Ifite penultimate weeks.

He disclosed that the Command is on trail of some already mentioned suspects involved in the act.

Responding, Awka South Council Chairman, Prince Chinedu Okafor, who spoke on behalf of all the stakeholders, pledged to work with the Command and other security agencies to improve public safety.
