Halfway around the globe, Sydney captivated the world with a spectacular fireworks display over its iconic harbour. Cheers erupted as revellers watched the dazzling show usher in 2025, a reminder of the city’s renowned New Year’s Eve celebrations.

South Korea’s Somber Transition
South Korea entered the new year under the shadow of the recent Muan air tragedy, which claimed 179 lives. Traditional celebrations, including the bell-ringing ceremony in Seoul, were scaled back, with performances cancelled as the nation mourned.
A Blend of Tradition and Festivity

In Thailand, Buddhist merit-making ceremonies drew crowds seeking blessings for the year ahead. On Bali, dancers welcomed the “sun of 2025” with vibrant performances, while prayers and offerings reflected the island’s spiritual essence.
Vietnam and Indonesia also marked the occasion with grand displays, as thousands gathered to celebrate.
As the clock ticks, the celebrations move westward. India, home to 1.4 billion people, will welcome 2025 at 18:30 GMT, followed by Myanmar and Bangladesh. Across the globe, the new year arrives as a symbol of hope, resilience, and renewal.
