Police nab six mobile phone robbers in Kano

Police have smashed six notorious mobile phone robbers in the ancient commercial city of Kano.
The youthful-looking criminals were picked up at different locations within Kano metropolis. Two operational tricycles, 15 stolen mobile phones were recovered from the hoodlums.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo Garba, has vowed to keep cracking down on all forms of criminality and criminal elements in Kano state.
A statement by Kano Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyaywa, said: “The Kano State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the arrest of six suspected mobile phone thieves operating within Kano Metropolis and recovery of two of their operational tricycles and fifteen mobile phones.
“The suspects were arrested between 11th and 15th of January, 2025 by a team of Police Operatives attached to Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department. This achievement was made possible through credible information received and intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts and black spots within Kano Metropolis.”
The police gave the names of the suspects to include: Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed , Hassan Sagir.
Kiyawa said, “All the suspects confessed to the crime and further stated that they specialized in disguising as Tricycle Riders and stealing of passengers mobile phones.”
The police confirmed items recovered from the mobile phone armed robbers to include: two operational Tricycles with Reg No. KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZ; 15 mobile phones.
Garba commended the officers and men involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication.
He also appreciated the cooperation and support of the public, which led to the successes recorded.
“Anyone who recognizes his/her mobile phone or tricycle among the recovered items should report at the Public Relations Office, Kano State Command or contact: 07063407910,” CP Dogo added.
The Kano police boss warned that, “the Command will continue to crack down on all forms of criminality in the State, including mobile phone theft, armed robbery, thuggery (Daba), etc.”
