Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Chibuzo Asomugha, has said that the union is waiting to hear from the Federal Government concerning the fresh industrial action which began on Friday, 4 October, 2013.

Asomugha, who made this disclosure in a chat with P.M.NEWS Campus Square, explained that there was a meeting between the union members and representatives of the Federal Government before embarking on the strike action on Friday. He noted that the Federal Government allowed the strike re-surface despite their discussions.

“We had a meeting with representatives of the Federal Government in Abuja on the same day that we embarked on the strike action.

“So, we can say that they purposedly allowed the strike action to take effect since they did not take any ‘tangible’ step to stop us whatsoever,” Asomugha noted.

Her maintained that the union hopes to hear from the Federal Government today (Thursday) since that was what they promised the striking lecturers.

“We are waiting for them to make a pronouncement on Thursday because that was what they told us. It’s going to be made public by them and everybody will see whether they can be trusted by their words or not.

“The union hopes to call off this strike as soon as possible but if our demands are not met, it’s a pity that everything may yet fall on deaf ears” he added.
