Lagos State Football Association, LSFA, has ordered the immediate stoppage of the ongoing Lagos Governor’s Cup.
The Chairman of the board, Taiwo Affinh, said at the end of a meeting yesterday that the decision to stop the championship is based on the fact that the organisers of the grassroots tourney failed to get the necessary clearance from the F.A. He added that the order was not meant to spite anybody but to correct the anomaly of organising a championship without due affiliation and clearance from the State F.A.
He said the Managing Director of the organising company, Excellence Sports Concept Limited, Kola Adebayo, has been summoned to appear before the board on Friday.
He also noted that the Lagos F.A. has not given organisers of the tournament the mandate to select players for Team Lagos ahead of the National Sports Festival scheduled for Rivers State, adding that the Technical Committee of the board has already shortlisted players for the team during the recently concluded state FA Cup, the Sports Month, the Principals’ Cup and the MTN/Lagos Street Soccer Championship.
When contacted, Adebayo expressed shock over the development, saying he has not received any letter on the latest development from the F.A.
