After successfully hosting the second edition of the annual Hon. Kamorudeen Ogunbadejo marathon organised by the legislator in the legislative arm of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, the sponsor has charged youths in the area to put more interest in sports.
Ogunbadejo promised to increase the prize money in subsequent editions of the marathon while urging youths to shun drug use, armed robbery, prostitution and other vices capable of ruining their promising future.
The Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, who was present at the Mile 2 area office of the LG after the conclusion of the race, congratulated all participants and prayed for continuous strength of the sponsor to sustain the lofty venture.
According to Comrade Adewale, “This programme is organised to develop the physical fitness of youths and to improve their body system since the race itself is an exercise.â€
The race which started from Second Rainbow junction of Total Filling Station/Tank and Tummy Fast Food, continued to Alakija and back to the Mile 2 area office and saw 20-year-old Abdulkabir Adebayo, a footballer retaining the first position. He went home with the sum of N30,000, Shittu Jamiu came second and won N20,000, Kehinde Okusaga got N10,000 for the third place position while the first female winner, Miss Omolara Adedoye got N5,000 for her effort.
Adebayo had after the first edition in 2009 went on to partake in an international marathon competition held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was sponsored by the local government.
The budding talent from Kwara State said, “I wish the LG Chairman can increase the stipend given to me so that it will be enough since I intend partaking in another edition of the international marathon competition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.â€
The event ended with lots to eat and drink. All participants went home with gifts courtesy of the Comrade Adewale led government. In attendance were Hon. Kamorudeen Ogunbadejo, of Ward A1 and Leader of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Akindele of Ward C, Majority Leader and Mr. Adebayo Adeniran, International President on anti-corruption campaign.
