Ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India, Nigerian record holder in men’s long jump, Yusuf Ali, has explained why his national record has not been broken for over two decades.

The former technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, stated in a chat with brilafm.net that it is very difficult to break records in technical events. He urged the National Sports Commission, NSC, to ensure that the country focuses on how to produce good jumpers for the next Olympics at London 2012.

“The Director General of the NSC, Partick Ekeji should also be ready to help us, but it is not easy. Things have changed from what it was during our time. But, we can still try and see if Nigeria can do it,” the lanky ex-athlete said.
