Two Senior Secondary School Students of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbonla, Epe, Lagos, Nigeria, have been expelled from the school, while 13 others were suspended for breaking into the school’s kitchen to steal four cartons of spaghetti and 26 loaves of bread.
The burglary which took place about two weeks ago caused a stir among officials of the school who decided to investigate how the kitchen safe where food for boarding students were kept was burgled in a systematic way.
P.M.NEWS gathered that there had been reported cases of stealing in the Model College and that each time it happened the school authorities always suspected the kitchen staff.
During investigation, a student confessed that he saw one of his colleagues preparing a pack of spaghetti in the hostel contrary to the school’s rule which did not allow boarders to cook.
The student’s confession led to the discovery of those who broke into the kitchen to steal the spaghetti and loaves of bread.
It was gathered that the students broke the kitchen safe where food for boarders were kept around 1.00 a.m after using a ladder to climb the silos where the food was kept and made away with the items.
On getting to their hostels, they allegedly shared the loot and began to cook the stolen item, which was against the school rule.
The following day, the kitchen staff on arriving for work discovered that the kitchen safe had been broken into and raised alarm, which prompted the school authorities to set up an investigative panel.
In the course of investigation, it was discovered that one of the non-boarder students was the one who actually discovered where the food staples were kept and gave the boarders the technique to loot them.
Further investigations showed that two students actually broke into the safe and made away with the items which they shared with 13 others. The two students were said to have been expelled after their parents were invited while the others were suspended for sharing in the loot.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Iyabode Osifeso confirmed the burglary, saying that some students broke into the kitchen safe and stole 80 packs of spaghetti.
She said an investigative panel was set up, which indicted some students which were punished accordingly to serve as deterrent to others.
The students said to have been expelled are Sijuade Oniwolu and Moses Ifeloju. Those suspended are Enoma Eraboh, Bashorun Rasheed, Tope Salami, Samuel Ilah, Isaac Oyelakin, Lanre Alashade, Ganiyu Balogun, Mustapha Ahmed, Sodiq Okeowo, Yomi Abogunloko, Odunayo and Jide.
