The Third Phase of the Zenith Bank Women Premier League dunks-off on 17 June.
The big teams taking part in the league have an equal chance of winning the trophy at stake. The teams are First Bank Basketball Club, First Deepwater Basketball Club and Sunshine Angels Basketball Club .
All the three teams are in the first, second and third position respectively on the table, but they had all lost two matches each in the first and second phases of the league played in Kano and Asaba.
Abimbola Fainran, a member of Lagos State Basketball Association, LSBBA, said the closeness of the teams to each other is an indication that the league is growing.
He said though First Bank Basketball Club have a slim chance of winning the league given their experience and their bench, their closes rivals, First Deepwater, who are the first local side to beat them in about seven years when they beat them in last season’s last game, can spoil their fun if they are taken for granted.
Sunshine Angels also showed some flashes of what they can do when they beat First Bank in the first phase in Kano and later beat First Deepwater in the second phase in Asaba. The girls can also act the spoiler role if care is not taken.
Meanwhile, Basketball Timeout exclusively gathered that some of the matches may be broadcast live by the satellite channel, DSTV.
DSTV are the title sponsors of the men’s Premier League.
