The Oba-elect of Igbo Elerin in Iba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, High Chief Sikiru Kolawole Ajagungbade Aina, has called on the state government to accord traditional rulers a place in grassroots governance, saying they can easily be accessed and are closer to the people.
According to him, “the role of traditional rulers in communities cannot be ignored as they are closer to the people at the grassroots,†while urging government to allow them to participate actively in the day-to-day running of government activities.
He commended Governor Babatunde Fashola for enhancing the living standard of the people in the state through provision of infrastructures and basic social amenities.
Aina also gave kudos to Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, for his untiring efforts in ensuring the growth of obaship tradition in the state, while praising the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rotimi Agunsoye, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kunle Abass, Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Olalekan Ifemade and the Chairman, Iba LCDA, Toyin Suarau, over the presentation of SUV to traditional rulers in the area.
