Shola Ogunjinri a Nigerian 100m athlete, has decried the poor state of facilities at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
In a chat with P.M.Sports in Lagos, Ogunjinri said she was disappointed that the authorities could not put the tartan tracks of the National Stadium in good shape for the use of the athletes
He urged the Sport Ministry to renovate the National Stadium and other facilities to enable the athletes go to the Sportscity for their daily training.
“I am not happy with the state of facilities at the National Stadium. I think government needs to do something urgently to renovate the facilities . The tartan tracks, especially needs an urgent renovation because of the athletes that train there,†she said
She also wants the Sports Ministry to renovate the basketball court and the swimming pool that have been in bad shape for a very long time.
Ogunjinri, who will represent River State at the forthcoming National Sport Festival in Port Harcourt next year, said that if the ministry puts the facilities in good shape and the athletes make use of them for their training, she is sure the country will produce more grassroots athletes that will make the nation proud in future international championships.
She also advised that the governments at all levels should give attention to other sports as they do for football.
