Nigerian Osayemi Oludamola is glad winning gold medal in the women’s 100m at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in India.
The Nigerian girl was declared the fastest woman of the Commonwealth Games yesterday after Australia lost an appeal to have Sally Pearson’s disqualification overturned.
Pearson crossed the line in 11.28 seconds, ahead of the Nigerian, but was disqualified for a false start three hours after the race following an appeal by Team England.
An elated Osayemi told international media after the race, she was overwhelmed with joy when she was declared the winner.
“It is a great thing to have won the gold medal of the 100m of the Commonwealth Games for my dear country. I was afraid when there was an outcry from the English team that there was a false start in the race. I thought it was me, but I thank God for what happenedâ€, she said.
