Chairman Organising Committee, Pius Oluwole Akinyelure, has assured the foreign players who are taking part in the ongoing Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis best treatment throughout the championship
Over 120 foreign and local players are expected to take part in the two weeks championship which began last Saturday at the Lawn Tennis Club, Lagos Island.
Akinyelure told P.M. Sports that the foreign players will enjoy the best of facilities throughout the competition, adding that this year’s edition will be a memorable one for the participants.
“This is not the first time we are organising the championship. The protocol and Entertainment Committee will ensure the foreign players have a successful stay in the country. We are looking forward to give all the participants a memorable championship,†said Akinyelure, who was impressed with the organisation of the championship
He said the Governor’s Cup has impacted positively on the world tennis.
According to him, only this year, Sonia Mirza, a future winner in 2004 in Governor’s Cup won a grand slam title in Australia.
Others who have passed through the portals of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis have made their marks in the world stage, including Sebastine Fitz and Alex Slabinsky, both of Britain.
