New Cricket Season Begins

The Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF has continued to make giant stride since the coming of the Kwesi Sagoe-led board about 6 years ago.

Speaking last weekend at the  Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval during the 2010/2011 cricket season’s opening match between National Champions, Ibeju-Lekki Cricket club and Lagos Club Cricket Committee X1, President of the federation, Kwesi Sagoe outlined the success record so far.

Sagoe revealed that apart from the employment of a general manager in line with international standard, the first ever National Women’s championship was held in June this year in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He noted that the newly introduced NCF quarterly Newsletter, “The Wicket” has continuously been receiving positive commentaries throughout the cricket world, adding that the country is the only International Cricket Council, ICC Associate member that featured in all the three modules of the Cricket Administration programmes of ICC.

While the country’s Under 19 team gained promotion to Cricket World Cup qualifiers division 1, retaining its position at the last tournament held in Namibia, They are presently ranked 7th in Africa to complement the senior National team’s 6th position ranking in the continent.

He informed that the board’s annual general and full council meetings of the federation have been successfully held regularly in line with corporate governance policy of ICC-ACA, the federation which hosted the North-West Africa All-Rounder Cricket Academy.
