The price of bread, one of Nigerians’ staple foods, is to go up anytime from now, so declared the new President of the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, AMBCN, Prince Jacob Adejorin.
Speaking at the swearing in of new executives of the association in Lagos, Prince Adejorin, attributed the development to the increase in the prices of other commodities used in baking bread.
According to Adejorin, millers have increased the price of flour from N4,900 to N5,600 and bakers will have no choice but to increase the price of bread so that they will not run out of business.
P.M.NEWS investigation also revealed that the price of sugar, another important commodity used in the making of bread, has gone up from N7,200 and N8,000 to N10,100. “The price of flour has gone up and we will have to deliberate on the next line of action, whether to increase or not, because we cannot run at a loss.
“I am appealing to everyone of us (bakers) to focus on the upliftment of our great association in Lagos and at the national Level. There is need for us to come together now more than ever before to move the baking business forward and this must be our joint responsibility. The task must be achieved by all of us. I promise to take the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, to greater heights.
“I wish to inform you all that from this moment the account of the Lagos State chapter of the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria has been frozen. All the former task force members have also been dissolved with immediate effect,â€Â he declared.
